Manager, Improvement Initatives

The Manager, Improvement Initiatives is responsible for leading a team and working collaboratively across the Sustainable Development team to prioritize and develop management strategies and plans for emerging opportunities, uncertainties and challenges related to water quality, flow, and aquatic life.

 

To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, who can collaborate with partners at all levels across the organization. This person is a self-motivated leader who can lead change in a multi-disciplinary field. Most importantly, you can prioritize tasks and find solutions in fast-paced, ambiguous situations.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead continuous improvement and sustainable development in the environmental field. You will be key to the team's success as we progress towards sustainable mining in the Elk Valley.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Track, investigate and respond to emerging opportunities, uncertainties, and challenges; manage follow-up actions including Adaptive Management Planning and transitioning responsibilities to the Water Integrated Planning team
  • Collaborate with the Water Management Committee to develop a charter and prioritize resources that advises forecasts, budgets, and schedules 
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to develop a management plan and charter to address chronic effects
  • Provide program governance and guide Improvement Initiatives cross-functional teams to ensure success
  • Lead a team by providing technical input and consideration points in regards to intake processes, workflows and output summaries

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or other related field 
  • Professional designation, or the ability to work towards one, in a related field
  • Minimum ten years of experience in environmental water quality or mine water planning, water quality monitoring, or regulatory or permitting processes 
  • Project management experience is an asset
  • Supervision experience is an asset
