Cost Analyst (Contract)

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Projects, Business Planning and Innovation, the Cost Analyst (Contract) is responsible for facilitating the finance planning, cost controls, coordinating transaction processing, financial reporting activities and business analysis processes for the Central Project Delivery Group. This position will work closely with Departments across the Coal BU, such as AP and Supply Chain Team, and support timely Financial and Operational Reporting and Cost Control functions. This is a 12- month contract position with the opportunity to extend for another year.

The ability to work independently in fast-moving and dynamic environments is vital for success.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to provide critical insights into opportunities for improvement, maintain existing data systems, and provide monthly reporting to Business Planning and Innovation group leaders. In this role you will assist in providing business analytics, cost control and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide cost tracking, cost model support and maintenance for all stages of the project lifecycle, including forecasting, budgeting and cost control
  • Maintain an effective financial control and reporting system for activities unique to the Central Project Delivery Group and Capital Projects
  • Coordinate financial planning, and project activities and strategies to provide financial guidance, advice, and analysis to support the financial reporting cycle
  • Coordinate month-end activities and prepare reports and forecasts
  • Assist the Accounts Payable (AP) team with relevant activities related to invoice receipt, processing, approval and payment, and data reconciliation
  • Review and interpret financial results, forecasts, and economic studies with management to determine the financial impact on the projects and Coal BU

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years experience in full cycle accounting, financial planning, or operational continuous improvement, preferably in the resources industry
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
  • Advanced user of financial data and reporting systems, such as Microsoft Office Suite® Excel, PowerPoint, Power Query and Power BI
  • Experience in Dynamics AX, D365, Atlas Reporting, Hyperion or OneStream is asset
  • Programming knowledge such as Python is an asset

 

Hourly Range: $50.00 - $60.00

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
