Job Summary

 

 Reporting to the Manger, Project Services, the Manager, Contracts & Procurement will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the contracts and procurement team for the Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC) project, which is currently in the FEL-2A Pre-feasibility Study stage.

 

The Manager, Contracts & Procurement will lead all project contracting and procurement functions, including the planning, organizing, and managing of staff, and activities. They will collaboratively with external risk, insurance and legal counsel, commercial professionals, and a diverse group of GCMC management, employees, and other external parties to develop, recommend, and implement contracting and procurement strategies, with the objective of advancing Project and business objectives. The Manager, Contracts & Procurement will contribute as an integral member of the GCMC Project Team in the overall management and decision-making processes for value enhancements, strategic action plans and project development operations.

 

The general maintenance responsibilities will primarily be conducted at two remote camps, one road-accessible camp (98-person capacity) and one helicopter-supported camp (160-person capacity). These responsibilities will include basic facility (kitchen, bathroom, and dormitory) maintenance.

 

This position will be based at the Galore Creek project site on a 15 on/13 off rotational basis, inclusive of travel. This rotation is subject to change as the project requires.

Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck Resources Limited and Newmont Corporation)

  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary project team, collaborate and influence project activities to unlock the value of the resource through strategic investments, and the advancement of development options

  • Manage the project contracts and procurement group and enable success by developing, recommending, and implementing contracting and procurement strategies, for both consultant studies and field program activities, as well as implementing strategies that best support project objectives

  • Collaborate with GCMC’s external Legal Counsel, the Teck Risk and Insurance Group, and other asset owner commercial groups, to develop, integrate and deliver best-practice project contract and procurement practices, policies, procedures and templates for management approval

  • Manage and support Contract and Procurement Leads and other partners on all aspects of the Contracting and Procurement process

  • Support and advise scope owners for interpretation of legal and commercial terms and the application of those terms to handle issues / disputes / claims. Step in as a leader to proactively resolve issues that arise between contractors/vendors and project teams with integrity. Proactively provide guidance to General Manager / Project Director / Project Services Manager and the broader project team regarding contract and procurement management strategies, options, and considerations throughout all stages of contracts and purchase order lifecycles

  • Ensure all GCMC personnel are advised on and follow contracting and procurement policies and procedures, and ensure project team members are informed on any changes to the delegation of authority protocol and change management processes

  • Prepare contract and procurement management plans, and reports as required

  • Build, foster, and maintain relationships with the Tahltan, relevant GCMC team members, external service providers, and contractors

  • Promote the company’s commitment to sustainability, the environment, and health and safety, through leading by example, and demonstrating integrity, sincerity, and openness to feedback

  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork across all constituents and stakeholders

  • Foster a culture of open communication, focus on building relationships across the organization, with the Partners and external audiences, and invest in developing talent within the organization by providing recognition, challenge, and mentorship

 

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institution is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in an Owner’s team type environment from an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), or engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) company, running and implementing contract lifecycle activities
  • Large mining project (+$1B) experience is preferred
  • Deep understanding of project lifecycles, project procedures, project roles and responsibilities
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with various contract types, models, and strategies
  • Strong understanding of various legal and commercial terms and ability to rely on those terms
  • Proficient negotiation and dispute resolution skills
  • Significant knowledge and hands-on experience in multiple phases of large project execution
  • Able to identify and raise awareness of contract activities that have an impact on the project
  • Knowledge of and experience working in the industrial engineering and construction industry
  • Strong critical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a confirmed ability to prioritize fast-paced work with minimal guidance to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer

Pay Range (Annual Salary): $134,900 - $166,700
