Role Overview
Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations is recruiting for a temporary Waste Management Coordinator to support the updating and implementation of RDO’s waste management and recycling programs. The position will coordinate with all departments to accomplish the outlined goals and will report to the Environmental Team Lead.
Work Schedule: 2 weeks on-site, 2 weeks off-site for a period of approximately 24 months
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Improvement & standardization of SAA and CAA compliant management practices
- Development/improvement of tracking systems for compliant management of:
-
- Scrap metal
- Used oil and glycol streams
- Scrap vehicles & equipment
- Other solid waste & recyclable streams
- Identification of opportunities & implement means to maximize recycling for all waste streams
- Development/implementation of new or update/improvement to current waste management system
- Routine updating/reconciling of the waste tracking tool to accurately reflect current onsite wastes
- Development of required RCRA and other waste management training for all departments
- Planning & execution of site-wide planned episodic cleanup events
- Development & implementation of a centralized, dedicated onsite waste & recycling management facility
- Development of a comprehensive site-wide waste management operations plan/blueprint
- Assisting in routine environmental compliance or other tasks, as required
Qualifications:
- Three (3) or more years of RCRA LQG hazardous and nonhazardous solid waste management experience at an operating industrial facility required
- Metals mine-specific experience preferred
- Experience within Alaska preferred
- Demonstrated successful experience required in compliant management & recordkeeping for:
- SAAs and CAAs
- Hazardous waste manifests
- Waste determinations, waste profiling, and associated requirements
- Ability to assist with other site requirements associated with RCRA Subtitle C compliance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word applications is required, proficiency in Access is a plus
- Excellent inter-personal and written communication skills required
- Experience developing and implementing industrial waste management tracking systems preferred
- Required training – current in the following or able to obtain upon hire:
- MSHA Part 48 Surface Mining training
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training
- Comprehensive RCRA training
- DOT and IATA training
