Tool Room Machinist

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Tool Room Machinist. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.
 

Will be on an even Rotation schedule.

 

Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Supervisor.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • From blueprint, determine and organize the sequence of operational procedure; select correct tooling; work holding method; spindle speed; tooling feed rates and machine attachments to make completed parts
  • Mount and secures tooling and tool holders or chucks, positions and secures work piece on bed face plate between centers of machine using care to align, block, support and clamp properly to avoid conditions affecting dimension
  • Sets-up, adjusts, and operates all machine shop equipment needed in the production of machine parts. Machines required to use include, but are not limited to, lathes, mills, surface grinders, drilling equipment, welding equipment, and broachers
  • Use precision measuring tools to maintain accuracy and quality of parts prior to releasing to production area
  • When necessary, can machine new components without blue prints through reverse engineering of a damaged component or piece of equipment
  • Observe all safety regulations and advises on safety hazards that exist
  • Maintain a clean work area, keeps equipment in good working order, and advises Supervisor of any required maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2 year Technical Degree in the machine trades and 8+ years in a machinist role
  • Ability to safely and proficiently operate lathes, mills, surface grinders, drilling equipment, welding equipment, and broachers
  • Must have the ability to adhere to high safety standards
  • Must be able to work day, afternoon, or night shifts as required
  • Must be a team player and able to communicate well with others
  • Must be highly motivated and have ability to self-perform tasks with limited direction
  • Must be able to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • Must be able to perform labor intensive work when required

 

Core Competencies:

 

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches in both metric and English
  • Ability to hold tight machining tolerances
  • Proficiency with various welding methods preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in using measuring instruments, set-up, and programming
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple and changing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to collaborate with other departments and foster teamwork
  • Ability to participate/lead in problem solving activities and pro-actively suggest improvements
  • Have a professional aptitude and ability to represent the Company in a professional manner
  • Basic computer proficiency, MS Operation systems
