Reporting to the Process Control Coordinator, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for process control improvements that drive value. Working closely within the Advanced Process Control and Automation Team, you will support installation, maintenance, and configuration of all process control for Red Dog Operations. This includes Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Database Systems, Software Applications, Networking Systems, Supervisory Control Systems, Vision Based Systems, Cyber Security, and Process Communications Systems (EtherNet, Data Highway, ControlNet, Remote I/O, Fiber Optics, Wireless Automation, Vision-based Systems).



  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work with a highly technical team with a focus on delivering value and promoting sharing of new methodologies across operations
  • Engage people at all levels of the organization, and across all operations and corporate offices
  • Manage an effective process control system by analyzing requirements, developing and implementing hardware and software, ensuring the security of the system, and maintaining documentation to ensure efficient process control and data acquisition
  • Communicate effectively with operating, technical, and maintenance groups to ensure optimum utilization of resources
  • Implement and maintain a statistical process control system as appropriate
  • Improve process control and instrumentation by evaluating new technology and recommending implementation where efficient, maintaining communications with suppliers and other operations
  • Maintain an effective preventive maintenance program based on operational equipment needs



  • Degree or diploma in electrical, controls, automation, instrumentation engineering, or equivalent combination of experience
  • Three to five years demonstrated ability in a Process Control role, preferably in a mining or milling environment
  • Solid understanding of Allen Bradley, ControlLogix, Micrologix, and PLC 5 hardware and associated software or equivalent manufacturer’s
  • Experience in PLC5 to ControlLogix conversion would be considered a significant asset
  • Ability to build control logic based on P&ID drawings and control narratives
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and instrumentation and have the ability to solve them
  • Solid understanding of databases, computer programming, and networking experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of OSI PI historian or equivalent historian databases
  • Must have a solid understanding in HMI software setup and programming, preferably Wonderware Intouch software
  • Experience and knowledge of cyber security for process control networks is required, certification will be considered an asset
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and Windows environment, with a solid understanding of Excel. Microsoft Certifications would be considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks, and thrive in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to mentor process control technicians
  • Capable of working with all levels of an organization and in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
