Role Overview

Reporting to the Port Operations Supervisor, the incumbents of the Port Operation’s progression demonstrates an understanding of the site layout and conveyors systems for dumping trucks, understands handling and storage plans, knows shipping conveyor systems, knows all concentrate shipping operations and knows how to switch products, understands concentrate management in CSB’s and load concentrates. The incumbent also operates heavy equipment for the Port Operations following all safety regulations and procedures outlined by the company including: operating TUB, VAC Truck, front end loaders, Skid Steer, Dozers.

Key Responsibilities

•    Proficient at operation of all Port equipment including TUB, VAC truck, front end loader (medium and small), skid steer, fork lift and competent in operating dozer in the CSB. 
•    Competent on all Port equipment including various equipment used at the Port such as, Motor grader, excavator, compactor, D5 dozer, D6 dozer, and backhoes. 
•    Oversee individual projects in a safe timely manner and shows competency and demonstrates the ability of being a lead hand. 
•    Assist in the training of new operators on Port equipment. 
•    Competent in managing stockpile in CSB’s and safely push concentrate to loaders during load out with minimal supervision. 
•    Demonstrate understanding of the Port Operation of the site layout and conveyors systems for dumping trucks and concentrate load out. 
•    Required to complete basic paperwork such as timesheets and walk around inspection forms which include information such as location, material hauled, load count, hours worked and condition of equipment. 
•    Required to comply with Red Dog Operations Environmental, Health, Safety and Community Policy which includes fugitive dust mitigation. 
•    Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and have the willingness to learn and advance through the Port Operators progression. 
•    Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards. 
•    Communicate effectively with other operators, colleagues and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift. 
•    Other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

•    High School Diploma or equivalent. 
•    Minimum of four (4) years’ prior mining or similar experience which includes heavy equipment operating experience (Skid steer, VAC truck, Loader, Forklift, Dozer) is required. 
•    Must be certified ship loader operator. 
•    Driver’s license preferred. 
•    Strong team cooperation is required. 
•    Perform all tasks with limited direction. 
•    Must work safely and follow instructions. 
•    Must be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions. 
•    Shift work required (Day Shift, Night Shift). 
•    Desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Port Operations department. 

 

Schedule & Travel: Paid fly-in, fly-out travel with a four-weeks on / two-weeks off (4x2) rotational schedule, including on-site accommodations & meals.
