Port Medic

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Port Medic. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

Rotation schedule will be 2 week on-site with 2 weeks off-site 

Reporting to the Port Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide emergency response at the Port in the areas of first aid, firefighting and spill response. Acts in the capacity of Incident Commander (IC) until relieved by a higher authority
  • Conduct fire extinguisher annual inspections, spill response equipment checks and general safety inspections on a monthly basis. Assists the Fire Systems Technician with inspection, maintenance, and testing of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems
  • Conduct MSHA (annual refresher, new hire, and site specific training), firefighting, spill response, and medical training, as well as maintaining all training and inspection records
  • Assist with Hazwoper, and confined space training, that takes place at the Port
  • Assist fall arrest trainers and is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of Fall Arrest equipment kept at the port
  • Work with the Mine Response Chief in the development of the Port ERT fire, medical and spill response training manuals, operating procedures, hazard recognition and task training
  • The Port Medic shall comply with the Port Medics Scope of Practice as outlined and directed by the mine Physician Assistants (PAs). The Port Medic will administer and maintain records for audiograms and collect blood lead and cadmium samples from Port employees. The Port Medic will also collect drug and alcohol screens when requested by Port Supervisors, S&H or the PAs
  • Ensure that the Port ambulance, fire engine and fire bay is maintained at a standard acceptable to the Response Chief and maintains the Port clinic at a standard acceptable to the mine PAs
  • Provide administrative services for Port management
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma (or equivalency)
  • Alaska Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) III
  • Must be Firefighter II or Engineer certified
  • Must have a current Alaska Driver’s License
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work well with others and have a professional demeanor
  • Will be required to obtain a Fire Extinguisher Level II Certification– to perform annual fire extinguisher inspections
  • Will be required to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card and security awareness training

Successful candidates must be fully vaccinated against infection by COVID-19, subject to an exemption approved by Teck Alaska
