Millwright Apprentice

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Millwright Apprentice. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Establish basic understanding of Mechanical components such as heavy stationary mechanical equipment, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems
  • By assisting the Mill Maintenance Supervisor or other Journeyperson(s) become familiar with Industrial Mechanics to include assembling, installing, repairing and dismantlement of mill equipment
  • Learn various processes of machinery repair, welding, alignment of shafts, pump rebuilds and fabricating
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and kept in a clean and orderly condition
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and have the willingness to learn and advance through the Millwright Apprentice progression
  • Communicate effectively with other trade personnel, colleague and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as comply with safety policies and procedures (Mining Safety Health Administration and Red Dog EMS training) and ensure daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Acquired training at a technical school such as Alaska Technical Center and/or obtained 6 months related work experience
  • Ability to adhere to high safety standards
  • Able to work day, afternoon, or night shifts as required
  • Team player and able to communicate well with others
  • Highly motivated and have ability to perform tasks with limited direction
  • Able to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • Able to perform labor intensive work when required
  • Must be able to follow directions
  • Ability to obtain a valid Alaska driver license is desirable
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Millwright Progression
