Role Overview

Reporting to the Principal Metallurgist, the Senior Metallurgical Technician will be assigned a variety of tasks, depending on his/her experience. The position is responsible for conducting a variety of metallurgical test-work including small scale grinding and flotation tests, Courier technical support, assisting the metallurgists with their projects, undertaking plant surveys and collecting key environmental samples.

Key Responsibilities

•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Complete assigned work in a professional manner, including necessary measurements, calculations, analyses, calibrations, interpretations, reporting and recommendations
•    Communicate effectively with operating, analytical and maintenance groups to ensure optimum utilization of resources
•    Conduct various laboratory tests which may include, but are not limited to:  plant sampling, sizing, cyclosizing, grinding and flotation testwork and pilot plant operations
•    Test work will support the daily mill operation and/or contribute to short and medium term projects designed at improving the mill performance

Qualifications

•    High School Diploma or equivalent 
•    High School Diploma or Equivalent; College degree preferred
•    Minimum of five (5) years as a Metallurgical Technician is required.  Proficiency with flotation testwork and the ability to diagnose and review laboratory results would be an asset
•    Experience in an operating concentrator would be an asset
•    Ability to perform a significant amount of physical activity
•    Be able to work with a respirator on, due to part of the job being conducted in the mill
•    Proficient in MS Office 2007 and Excel
•    Good organization and observation skills
•    Strong communication skills
