Role Overview

Reporting to the VP, HR and Talent, the Manager, Human Resources, plans, directs, and coordinates activities to maximize the strategic use of human resources, which includes benefits and compensation, recruitment, employee relations, personnel policies, and training and development. This role also manages Teck’s contract with NANA Management Services (NMS), who provide camp management, custodial and catering services for the Red Dog site, consisting of 3 camps, totaling over 600 beds.    

Rotation Schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 1 week off-site

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead the strategic design, implementation, and evaluation of training and development programs across all employee groups to ensure alignment with organizational goals and operational excellence. Oversee initiatives such as supervisor development, compliance and safety related training, and the Engineer in Training (EIT) rotation program, ensuring consistency and impact across Red Dog operations
  • Oversee implementation of performance management framework, providing direction and support to leaders in competency development, career pathing, and performance calibration. Ensures compliance, effectiveness, and continuous improvement through audits and data-driven insights
  • Accountable for NANA Shareholder Hire and Development as part of partnership agreement, overseeing the development of recruitment and development programs that support increasing Shareholder Hire and development of Shareholders in Exempt positions
  • Responsible for enforcing the Teck/NANA Operating Agreement including participation as a member of the Teck/NANA Employment & Training Committee in working towards increased Shareholder employment opportunities
  • Direct recruitment strategy and workforce planning for all exempt and non-exempt positions at Red Dog Mine. Partners with senior leadership to forecast talent needs, enhance employer branding, and ensure equitable and efficient hiring practices
  • Provide oversight and partnership to NMS in optimizing operational and financial performance under the MSA contract. Conducts monthly financial reviews, variance analysis, and forecasting to ensure fiscal accountability and alignment with business objectives
  • Develop and implement site-wide HR and employee relations policies, ensuring consistency, legal compliance, and alignment with corporate values and operational needs
  • Serve as a key advisor to site leadership on employee relations matters, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Ensures fair and consistent application of policies and practices
  • Lead the preparation and analysis of HR metrics and compliance reporting, including turnover, workforce demographics, 401(k) discrimination testing, and EEO reporting. Uses data to inform strategic decisions and continuous improvement
  • Manage the HR department budget, including monthly variance reviews, forecasting, and resource allocation. Ensures financial stewardship and alignment with organizational priorities
  • Act as Person in Charge (PIC) in the absence of the General Manager, providing continuity of leadership and decision-making support to site operations. Participates as member of the senior management team in providing overall direction for the Red Dog operation
  • Champion continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration, taking on special projects and initiatives that advance HR strategy and operational effectiveness. Collaborate with site leadership and other HR managers to implement corporate improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development or related discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree
  • Ten (10) years of progressive Human Resources experience, with demonstrated capability across multiple functional areas, including employee training and development, employee relations, compensation and benefits, HR policy development, and general HR operations
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience. Experience should include leading teams, influencing business decision making, and overseeing site wide HR initiatives
  • Experience administering third party contracts, employee relations, compensation/salary administration and Immigrations management programs is required
  • Experience operating as a Business Partner to business or operational leaders, offering strategic and practical guidance on all matters of human resources
  • Knowledge of state and Federal HIPAA, MSHA, ERISA and Labor and Employment Laws is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication, editing, organization and interpersonal skills are required
  • Work strategically and operationalize policies and procedures in an industrial environment
  • Work independently and as member of a proactive, consciously customer service-oriented team
  • Able to lead a team of senior HR professionals and direct their work in order to achieve results
  • Able to lead through business transformations and teams experiencing change
  • Facilitate conflict resolution, problem solving, team effectiveness conversations
  • Operate in a strict climate of confidentiality and discretion
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, access, and PowerPoint is required
