Red Dog Operations is both the largest critical minerals mine in the United States and one of the largest zinc mines in the world. Role Overview

Reporting to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer, the Geotechnical Engineering Co-Op Student will provide technical support to the Geotechnical team through hands-on field and office work, while gaining exposure to mine operations and specialized geotechnical practices. This role is designed to foster professional development and practical experience in a mining environment. 

 

Anticipated Start Date: May 2026

 

Duration: Approximately 4 months

Key Responsibilities

•    Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
•    Assist with installation, maintenance and data collection of geotechnical field instruments (e.g., prisms, piezometers, inclinometers, etc.).
•    Support the collection and analyzing of monitoring data for pit highwall stability, displacement trends, and ground movement.
•    Support rockfall hazard assessments and contribute to mitigation planning.
•    Participate in field inspections of pit highwalls and waste dumps, and data collection for ongoing geotechnical programs.
•    Participate in engineering reviews of mine plans and drill and blast designs.
•    Prepare technical summaries, charts, and reports for engineering review.
•    Collaborate with mine operations and engineering teams to ensure safe and efficient practices.

Qualifications

•    Currently enrolled in a Mining/Mineral Processing, Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering program.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to adapt to a dynamic mining environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel.
•    Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain 
•    Must be proficient in MS Office Suite and Windows environment with advanced abilities in MS Excel.
•    Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels.
