Role Overview
Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Geologist – Grade Control
Reporting to the Senior Geologist, Production, the Geologist, Grade Control is responsible for planning and directing the construction of ore stockpiles, monitoring and controlling the day-to-day movement of ore and waste in the pit, geological mapping, and maintaining ore control plans and records.
Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site
Key Responsibilities
• Protect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs by Teck Alaska policy and appropriate regulations.
• Ensure shots are released on time and the dig polygons allow optimal mining and stockpile building.
• Ensure ore/waste contacts are correctly flagged and separation is carried out efficiently in the open pits.
• Plan or review day-to-day haulage in the pit using the Weekly Plan as guidance.
• Ensure stockpile lift plans are updated regularly to support Weekly and Forecast planning.
• Update worksheets and presentations for weekly meetings and review with Senior Geologist-Production.
• Attend daily meetings to provide input into short-range planning.
• Review the work of grade control technicians and provide mentorship when needed.
• Develop short-term haulage plans directly with mine supervisors, Production Coordinator, and Integrated Planning/Mine Engineers.
• Work directly with heavy equipment operators to carry out detailed excavation, separating ore from waste.
• Collect and audit daily haulage data, compiling them on time for haulage reports.
• Audit blasthole sample collection and perform QAQC on assay data.
• Maintain communication with mine engineering and metallurgy to ensure all relevant parameters are included in blast releases.
• Waste management and reporting.
• Stay current and comply with mining laws and company safety procedures.

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related field with at least two (2) years of experience in an open pit or similar field.
• NANA shareholders who meet the requirements and intend to obtain a post-secondary education in a mine geology/engineering field would be considered for a Grade Control Technician position.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including creating custom formulas and developing new spreadsheets as needed, and proficiency in other MS Office Suite products.
• Able to work outdoors in arctic conditions (cold temperatures, high winds, heavy snow). Able to walk on rocky slopes or uneven ground; occasional squatting, kneeling, climbing, sitting, and reaching above the shoulders is required. Color vision is needed to distinguish flagging indicator colors, create maps for operators, and give directions to operators based on color changes in the dig face.
• Proficiency in database and geology software, such as SQL, acQuire, or Leapfrog, would be an asset.
• Experience with mining software such as Minesight, Vulcan, or an equivalent would be an asset.
• Strong interpersonal communication, written and verbal skills
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
