The Fire Systems Service Person is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Red Dog Operations fire protection systems. This includes the monitoring and alarm system, suppression systems, and other associated equipment. This position is also responsible for checking and maintaining all fire extinguishers and mobile equipment fire suppression systems.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to and troubleshoot all alarms
- Responsible for the certification, routine and preventative maintenance of all monitoring and alarms systems throughout the personnel accommodations complex, mill, powerhouse, crushers, services complex and outbuildings
- Responsible for the certification, routine and preventative maintenance of all suppression systems including:
o Diesel, electric and jockey pumps
o Sprinklers, valves, seals, pressure switches, flow switches
o Hydrant systems, mains and laterals
o Standpipes and hose cabinets
o Powerhouse, mill computer room, communication rooms FM-200 systems
o Fixed, portable, and mobile dry chemical extinguishers
o Conveyor fire suppression systems
o Powerhouse Foam System
o Kitchen hood systems
o Mobile Mining Equipment
- Ensures all records, procedures, methods, manuals and training are maintained in an orderly and up-to-date manner
- Responsible for investigating and recommending system upgrades, as required
- Provides fire systems expertise to third party external agencies such as FM Global, MSHA, State of Alaska Fire Marshalls as required to ensure Red Dog compliance with various regulations
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level 2 Certification OR
- At least two of the three State of Alaska (SOA) Fire Systems Permits listed below:
o Fire Alarms 1B
o Sprinkler 2B
o Special Hazards 3B
- State of Alaska Fire Extinguisher Permit – Level 3
- Experience with installation, maintenance and testing of; fire extinguishers, fire alarms and sprinkler systems
- Basic electrical knowledge is required
- Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business
- Mining or heavy industry experience is preferred
- Strong communication skills
