For this position, we are looking for a student who is pursuing their post-secondary degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering. A background in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering will also be considered. You must also currently be a student enrolled in an American or Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the work term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the work term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Red Dog Operations is one of the world's largest zinc mines, located about 170 kilometers (105 miles) north of the Arctic Circle in northwest Alaska, near Kotzebue. Red Dog is an open-pit truck-and-loader operation, using
conventional drill and blast mining methods. Concentrates produced at Red Dog are shipped to our metallurgical facilities in Trail, British Columbia, and to customers in Asia and Europe. The current mine life, based on existing developed deposits, is expected to extend through to 2031.
This position operates on a four-weeks on, two-weeks off, fly-in, fly-out rotation, providing an excellent work-life balance. Transportation to and from the mine site will be covered. The mine site is a camp environment and all food and lodging is provided. On-site living accommodations also have many amenities to make life at the mine very comfortable. These include a gymnasium, indoor track, weightlifting rooms, a library/media room, craft and music rooms, and a cafeteria where you are served three home-cooked meals a day. Salary Range: $4600 - $5800 / Month
Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.
Responsibilities

Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day

Collaborate with engineering and operations for the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plans

Work in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimization

Contribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departments

Monitor and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating procedures

Assist with the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance of mine permits

Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation

Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Qualifications

Working towards a post-secondary degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering is preferred. A background in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering will also be considered.

Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously

Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel

Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
