The seasonal Environmental Technician will collect field samples and data, ensuring compliance with regulations and permits with suitable technology.

 

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on site, with 2 weeks off site

 

Reporting to the Environmental Technical Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the collection, recording and processing of environmental samples and measurements to fulfill defined environmental monitoring requirements
  • Prepare and follow a schedule and set of procedures, which will ensure the shipment of samples to appropriate laboratories within the required time periods
  • Accurately label and handle samples to maintain data integrity and avoid test result interference.
  • Record field notes, documents, adhoc reports for regulatory, legal, permitting, compliance purposes using software
  • Participate in data collection that is primarily outside and often requires travel by vehicle, helicopter, small aircraft, foot, boat or snow-machine and ensures work is completed safely while in an Arctic environment
  • Demonstrate understanding of environmental risks, align with safety policies, ensure daily workplace inspections to identify and correct hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and instructs coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months environmental experience. Successful environmental experience from site preferred
  • Have a valid Driver's License
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office suite applications, and proficient in Adobe Acrobat software
  • Strong team collaboration with proven communication, organization and observation skills
  • Ability to perform all tasks with limited direction
  • Prioritize safety in the workplace and abide by protocols
  • Willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Environmental department
  • Experience with Aquarius Software, Campbell Scientific equipment, conducting in-steam flow measurements and particulate monitoring preferred
