Reporting to the Safety and Health Lead, the Emergency Response Chief is accountable for providing Fire Control services, Emergency Medical Services, Hazmat services, Mass Causality Incident services and spill response services. In addition, support services to all other areas including safety, and security operations at the Red Dog Operations.
Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on site, with 2 weeks off site
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain response programs for the fire department that meet all company, OSHA, MSHA, and NFPA regulations including set up of ongoing fire department, Hazmat, ICS, spill response, other emergency response training and safety awareness programs for employees and supervisors
- Ensure the readiness of all emergency response equipment and develops and updates training and operating procedure manuals and maintains records of fire department, Hazmat, and ICS training etc.
- Conduct, and participate in various Fire, EMS, Spill, Hazmat, Security and MSHA training sessions
- Respond to ALL Emergency Situations, assuming command, and ensuring accurate cleanup, advising personnel when needed and ensuring the protection of employee safety, and company property
- Collaborate with Corporate Risk & Insurance and the State Fire Marshal’s office to ensure compliance with fire codes, contributes to risk assessment and disaster contingency plans, for fire and medical as well as ensuring that all modifications to existing buildings, and new installations, meet state fire codes, and insurance requirements.
- Perform fire prevention and safety inspections of the work place
- Will act as part of the Security personnel for the property mine, port and airport in accordance with the State and Federal regulations that meets Federal and State Regulations which includes non-lethal and lethal methods
- Attend, represent and provide leadership at offsite training events and/or educational training courses and various conferences. Provide leadership for other emergency responders during those events
- Remain knowledgeable of current events, training requirements, new technology and laws and regulations in regards to Emergency Services
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required, a Fire Service degree is preferred
- Fire Fighter 1 certification; or able to obtain within 1 year of hire
- Current EMT B certification; or able to obtain it within 1 year of hire. Will be expected to become an EMT 3 as soon as possible
- Emergency Services Instructor Certification i.e. Methods of Instruction (MOI)
- 5 – 7 years’ experience in industrial emergency medical care, rescue and/or hazmat operations and proven responsible emergency services management
- Aircraft firefighting experience is preferred
- ICS 100/200/300 certifications preferred
- Knowledge of all fire department operations including fire control, public service, fire prevention, building inspections, and fire investigation
- Strong understanding of OSHA, MSHA, EPA, DEC & NFPA regulations
- Knowledge and exposure to health and safety management in mining or heavy industry is preferred
- Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
