Driller/Blaster Entry (Temporary)

Red Dog, AK, US

Reporting to the Mine General Foreman, the incumbents of the Drill and Blast’s progression demonstrates and understanding of storage and handling explosives. The incumbent also operates light vehicles for the mine department following all safety regulations and procedures outlined by the company

 

Rotation will be an even schedule

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Establish basic understanding of blasting agents and proper handling of material under close supervision of a trainer or a more senior Mine Operator
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and have the willingness to learn and advance through the Drill and Blast progression
  • Communicate effectively with other Drillers and Blasters, colleagues and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures (Mining Safety Health Administration and Red Dog Emergency Medical Services training) and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass a Bureau Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms - Employee Possessor background check
  • Experience in a mining environment is preferred
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Strong team cooperation is required
  • Ability to perform all tasks with limited direction
  • Must work safely and follow instructions
  • Must be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Mine Operations department
