Drill & Blast Supervisor

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Drill & Blast Supervisor. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

Rotation Schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site 

Reporting to the Mine General Supervisor


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Protect the safety and health of employees by enforcing safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Company policy and the appropriate code of federal regulations as outlined by the Mine Safety and Health Administration
  • Ensure the drill and blasting operation complies with all environmental regulations
  • Effectively manage the drill and blast crews by following, enforcing and administering company policies in a fair and equitable manner
  • Implementation of training and certification program for blasting and ensure the blasting operation complies with the company and industry best practice standards
  • Oversee the development and training of personnel to ensure safe work practices and conditions, productive employees and to participate in hiring, discipline and terminations, as required, in accordance with Company policy. Close cooperation with the Mine Trainers is required to achieve uniform goals and standards of operator capabilities
  • Effectively respond to crew concerns where possible and communicate issues that are outside your area of control
  • Coordinate, schedule and monitor drill and blast activities on a shift basis and to motivate his crew to safely and efficiently meet the production objectives at minimum cost
  • Effective teamwork and communication with the Engineering, Geology, Maintenance and Operations in providing information and coordinating activities to ensure development, production and fragmentation objectives are realized as defined in the Operating Plan
  • Complete the necessary production and statistical reporting requirements accurately and in a timely fashion to ensure that the proper flow of information is maintained
  • Represent and support the Company in its goals and objectives through regular crew meetings, safety meetings and by monitoring and changing crew performance
  • Participation in Mine-2-Mill program and effectively support continuous improvements within drilling and blasting.  Responsible for Mine-2-Mill (M2M) KPI’s for drilling and blasting QA / QC
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Minimum of 10 years drilling and blasting experience in open pit mining
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms explosives clearance
  • Must have a working knowledge of Mining Safety and Health Administration  Standards
  • Fully versed and knowledgeable in the latest blasting technologies for open pit mine such as electronic detonating systems
  • The ability to oversee and manage contractor support associated to drilling and blasting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Proven and exemplary leadership skills
  • Experience with the budgeting process for drill and blasting
  • Advanced problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Highly motivated team player

Successful candidates must be fully vaccinated against infection by COVID-19, subject to an exemption approved by Teck Alaska.
