Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Core Technician is responsible for providing support to the 2025 Exploration program as directed by their supervisor. This support comprises of a full range of drill core processing duties including handling, photographing, cutting and sampling drill core in accordance with the geologist.
The rotation schedule for this opportunity will be an even rotation, 2 weeks on-site with 1 week off-site.
Responsibilities:
• Fully embrace Teck’s core values by being Safe, Courageous, Respectful, Inclusive, Humble and Driven
• Attend and actively participate in safety and pre-shift meetings
• Collect and cut core samples identified by geologists. Sample collection includes splitting the core in half with a core saw, bagging samples, labelling sample bags, inserting standards or blanks as necessary, and storing samples in a manner consistent with shipping requirements. Conscientious sample collection is necessary for program success
• Photograph all drill core in both dry and damp condition. Check photos for clarity and for correct footages and box numbers. Retake photographs, if necessary, save photos in the appropriate location using the proper file naming convention
• Utilize forklift to move core and other items as needed
• Manually shelve and de-shelve or palletize core boxes as directed
• Assist placing core boxes on logging tables and washing core in preparation for logging as directed
• Maintain core saw facility, core logging tent, and core yard in a neat and organized manner
• Assist with general housekeeping including but not limited to cleaning vehicles, snow removal and inventorying supplies
• Carry out workplace inspections, identify hazards and hazard mitigation solutions, and report unsafe conditions and behaviors
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work a labor-intensive job while being detail oriented
• Basic computer skills such as file management, spreadsheets, and word processing skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as a regular part of the position
• Previous forklift experience is not required but is a strong asset
• Ability to work effectively with a large, diverse team, and maintain a safe and respectful workplace
• A driver’s license is not required but is a very strong asset
