Core Technician (Temporary) x 4

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Core Technician x4 (Temporary). Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.
Schedule will be 2 weeks on-site, 1 weeks off-site
Reporting to the Senior Geologist
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor health, safety, community and environmental policies, procedures, and systems, including emergency response plans and hazard and risk assessments
- Fully embrace Teck’s core values. One way this is demonstrated is by attending and actively participating in daily safety meetings
- Collect core samples identified by geologists. Sample collection includes cutting the core with a core saw in a manner that collects a representative sample of the core, bagging samples and labelling sample bags, inserting standards or blanks as necessary, and storing samples in a manner consistent with shipping requirements. Conscientious sample collection is necessary for program success
- Perform specific gravity tests on drill core samples identified by geologists. Perform measurements on standards as required. Document results for both samples and standards
- Perform point load tests on drill core samples identified by geologists. Document results including sketches if necessary
- Photograph all drill core in both dry and damp condition. Check photos for clarity and for correct footages and box numbers. Retake photographs if necessary. Save photos in the appropriate location using the proper file naming convention
- Manage core boxes including using a forklift to move pallets of core boxes, laying core boxes out on logging tables in the appropriate order and location, washing core in preparation for logging, and shelving or palletizing core boxes as directed
- Maintain core sawing facility, core logging tent, and core yard in a neat and organized manner
- Work effectively with a large, diverse team, and maintain a safe and respectful workplace
- Carry out workplace inspections, identify hazards and hazard mitigation solutions, and report unsafe conditions and behaviors
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer file management, spreadsheet, and word processing skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as a regular part of the position
- Ability to work on day or night shift required
- Driver's license is a strong asset
