Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Community Liaison (Kivalina)
This position will be located in Kivalina: work schedule will be Monday – Friday 8am-5pm
Reporting to the Team Leader, Community Relations
Responsibilities:
• Promote and ensure a safe work environment and a safety conscious workforce by supporting and following safety initiatives, procedures and activities
• Liaise between Teck staff and villages, particularly the Village of Kivalina
• Track engagement activities and key communications with Kivalina and other villages, in a database
• Organize and support engagement activities (village visits, meetings, interviews and focus groups)
• Support social data collection and analysis, including the social management system
• Assist with developing and maintaining relationships with village organizations, IRAs and city councils
• If applicable manage the Red Dog office in Kivalina, should it be required in the future
• Support economic development initiatives
• Assist in development and review of communication materials
• Represent Teck and its values in interactions with all communities
• Support monthly and quarterly reporting to the Vancouver head office
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent with some College preferred. College education will be waived if equivalent, related experience can be demonstrated
• Three (3) or more years of relevant work experience
• Understanding of the NANA region and experience living/working in the region
• Ability to speak Inupiat an asset
• Frequent travel on short notice
• Interest in Community Relations
• Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal with and work well with others
• Professional attitude, able to take direction and give or take feedback
• Strive to improve own knowledge and skills
• Work well in a fast-paced environment to produce results quickly and efficiently
• Have organizational skills, who can work independently and in a team environment
• Computer experience in Window’s environment including Microsoft Office suite (includes PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Publisher and Adobe Professional)
