Closure Coordinator

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Closure Coordinator.

 

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

 

Responsibilities:
•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Support closure planning and implementation on-site in alignment with Teck’s Closure Standard, and provide reporting on closure-related tasks
•    Collaborate closely with the Senior Closure Lead and Biodiversity Lead to plan and coordinate logistical aspects of closure, reclamation and biodiversity projects, including procurement, resource allocation, and scheduling
•    Provide technical direction, review design options and recommend best alternatives for closure and reclamation work
•    Utilize appropriate project management controls to maintain project costs, schedules and deliverables 
•    Prepare various professional reports, applications and submissions for internal and government audiences  
•    Supervise a team of external professionals responsible for delivery of closure, reclamation, and biodiversity related programs across the operation
•    Support identification and migration of closure, reclamation, and biodiversity risks, issues or challenges, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions to address the risk, issues or challenges  
•    Coordinate the collection, recording and processing of data to fulfill defined environmental monitoring requirements.  Maintain proper field notes and documentation as well as various reports related to regulatory, legal, permitting or compliance purposes through the use of spreadsheet, word processing and database software
•    Support Red Dog’s external engagement activities, including community meetings, agency site visits, presentations to community schools, projects consultations, and other communications related to closure, reclamation, and biodiversity projects
•    Build strong internal working relationships to facilitate closure education, change management, and to support compliance efforts and mine planning efficiencies 
•    Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards throughout the execution of closure and biodiversity projects
•    Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards and adhere to all safety policies and procedures
•    Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
•    Other responsibilities as required or as assigned

External Job Description


Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline (e.g. environmental engineering, civil engineering, environmental science, natural resources, geology, ecology, biology, hydrology)
•    Minimum three (3) years experience with mine reclamation and closure, project management, community engagement, and/or biodiversity management.  Five (5) or more years of relevant experience preferred
•    Must have valid Driver's License
•    Demonstrated success in working with operations, environmental and engineering teams
•    Technical knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and effective industry practices would be preferred
•    Experience in arctic environments would be considered an asset
•    Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
•    Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving
•    Must be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
•    Must have good organization and observation skills
•    Strong oral and written communication skills in both formal and informal settings, including technical writing, data analysis and reporting
•    Ability to work productively with nominal supervision and work independently
•    Ability to work collaboratively and productively as a team member, a supervisor of consultants, and with external communities of interest including regulatory agencies and indigenous peoples
•    Experience in MS Office Suite and planning tools or software would be considered an asset
•    Capable of working with all levels of the organization and in a team environment
