Reporting to the Technology Manager, Copper Growth, the Project Controls Specialist will be responsible for integrating scope, schedule, cost and procurement plans and activities to ensure alignment in progress monitoring and reporting of Teck Digital Systems (TDS) technologies for Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Mine Life Extension (MLE) project, part of TDS Copper Growth program. Teck’s Copper Growth program is a multi-year strategy to provide our world with the critical copper to support energy transition. Teck has potential to develop 10 new mining operations in the next decade! The TDS Copper Growth Program has the goal to deliver and deploy technologies for these operations in a cost effective, consistent, and scalable way.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Maintain and demonstrate Teck’s commitment to safety and environmental protection as a core value.
- Responsible for ensuring TDS Project Management Office (PMO) standards, procedures and guidelines are properly applied and followed on the project.
- Assist in developing and reviewing project Work Breakdown Structures, work packages, cost estimations, resource forecasts, and schedules.
- Responsible for schedule planning and development, reviews, resource allocation, progress and performance measurement, schedule analysis, forecasting and status reporting. This is a hands-on role requiring development of schedules in MS Project Online and providing schedule expertise and guidance to the project team.
- Responsible for providing support and interface with Project Accounting and/or Business Unit Finance groups.
- Responsible for providing timely, accurate, and in-depth analysis of project health with respect to trends and variances on progress, schedule, costs, and resources.
- Provide root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for project variances.
- Responsible to arrange and facilitate weekly project controls review meetings, change management meetings, or any other regularly occurring meeting, as appropriate.
- Responsible for preparation of the project weekly and monthly reports.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in finance, business, accounting, computer science or engineering.
- 5+ years of project controls experience, with preference to mining/industrial projects, is required.
- Excellent knowledge of project management theory, especially in time and cost management, is required.
- Experience with progress measurement and earned value measurement systems is required
- Hands on experience in developing and progressing resource loaded schedules in MS Project is required.
- Strong knowledge of the engineering and construction industry is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills as well as able to prioritize and meet deadlines is required.
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty with project scopes is preferred
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving abilities are required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint and other Office 365 applications.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
- CCP, CEP, PMP or other similar designations considered an asset.
