For this exciting opportunity, we are seeking students pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, or related fields. Candidates should be in their third or fourth year of study with prior co-op, internship, or relevant work experience. Preference will be given to master's students. Applicants must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution for the full duration of the co-op term and be eligible to return to their studies following completion of the work term. A valid study permit and proof of enrollment will be required where applicable.

Ideal candidates will have exposure to Power BI, data visualization, and business intelligence concepts through coursework, projects, co-op placements, or work experience. Familiarity with Power BI Desktop, DAX, Power Query, SQL Server, or Oracle databases is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with a basic understanding of data modelling and relational databases, will support success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Learn and understand Teck's reporting architecture, data models, data sources, and business processes through structured training and hands-on experience
Develop, enhance, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards based on business requirements
Analyze existing reports and find opportunities to improve usability, performance, data quality, and visualization
Develop new Power BI reports and dashboards to support business and operational requirements
Write and optimize SQL queries to retrieve, transform, validate, and analyze data from relational databases.
Develop and maintain data transformations using Power Query / M.
Develop and maintain DAX measures, calculated columns, and calculations to support reporting requirements
Apply data modelling principles to create efficient and scalable Power BI semantic models
Perform data validation and reconciliation to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency
Solve data, refresh, modelling, and report performance issues
Work with business analysts and customers to understand reporting requirements and translate them into effective reporting solutions
Participate in iterative development and feedback cycles, delivering early versions of reports and dynamically improving them based on customer feedback
Maintain appropriate documentation for reports, data sources, data models, calculations, and reporting processes
Support deployment, testing, and release of Power BI reports across development, test, and production environments
Find opportunities to automate manual reporting and improve the efficiency of existing reporting processes
Follow established data governance, security, access control, and reporting standards

Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field
Some experience or academic exposure to Microsoft Power BI, data visualization, or business intelligence
Basic understanding of SQL and the ability to read, write, and understand simple queries
Understanding of basic relational database concepts, including tables, fields, keys, and relationships between tables
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in understanding data and identifying trends, patterns, and discrepancies
Ability to learn new technologies, data models, and business processes through training and hands-on experience
Ability to work with others to understand business requirements and translate them into practical reporting solutions
