About our Anchorage Office

Teck's Anchorage office is home to an administrative team supporting our Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest zinc mines, which is operated under an innovative agreement between Teck and landowner NANA, a Regional Alaska Native corporation owned by the Iñupiat of northwest Alaska.

 

Role Overview

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for end-to-end ownership of the payroll process for Red Dog Operations. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a complex workforce that includes rotational schedules, hourly and salaried employees, and bonus payments.

 

This position is located in the Anchorage Teck office with a Monday – Friday work schedule

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations & Ownership
•    Own the full payroll lifecycle from input validation to final posting and reconciliation
•    Process biweekly payrolls for hourly and salaried employees, including bonuses and special payments
•    Ensure payroll accuracy across complex work schedules, rotations, and pay rules
•    Maintain payroll master data integrity and coordinate closely with HR on employee changes
•    Monitor payroll controls, perform audits, and resolve discrepancies proactively


Compliance & Reporting
•    Ensure full compliance with U.S. federal and state payroll tax regulations, garnishments, and statutory reporting
•    Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax filings and supporting documentation
•    Manage EFTPS, ACH, and third-party vendor interfaces as applicable
•    Maintain compliance with internal policies and confidentiality standards


Systems & Continuous Improvement
•    Act as payroll system expert for SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll
•    Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, automation, and controls
•    Support system updates, testing, and process changes in collaboration with HR and IT
•    Maintain clear payroll procedures and documentation

Responsibilities

Accounting & Reconciliation
•    Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and support month-end and year-end close activities
•    Provide payroll data and analysis to Accounting, HR, and business stakeholders as required
•    Support audits by internal and external parties


Collaboration & Professional Practice
•    Serve as a trusted payroll resource to employees and managers
•    Communicate clearly and professionally regarding payroll matters and timelines
•    Exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information
•    Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned

Qualifications

•    Minimum of Four (4) years of progressive payroll administration experience in a mid-to-large organization
•    Strong working knowledge of U.S. payroll tax laws, wage and hour rules, and payroll accounting
•    Demonstrated experience owning payroll processes end-to-end with minimal supervision
•    High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability
•    Strong math aptitude and analytical/problem-solving skills
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including reconciliations, formulas, and data review)
•    Proven ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities in a regulated environment
•    Strong ethics and commitment to confidentiality


Preferred
•    Experience with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll or SAP payroll environments
•    Systems-oriented mindset with experience working in integrated HR/payroll systems
•    Payroll experience in mining, industrial, manufacturing, or other complex operations
•    Exposure to rotational or remote workforce payroll
•    Payroll certification (CPP, FPC) or progress toward certification
•    Post-secondary coursework in accounting, finance, or business administration
