About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Mining Systems Technology Supervisor, the Mining Systems Technician is a site-based resource dedicated to the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of mining technology components/systems.
This position is accountable for the physical installation, maintenance, and support of wireless networking equipment as well as the installation and maintenance of industrial computing assets on both mobile equipment and remote communication sites. In depth knowledge of digital communications and wireless technologies in a mining environment are preferred. Ability to engage with personnel at all levels of the organization is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mobile computing hardware and wireless data networks.
- Ensure the security and availability of the wireless data networks.
- Facilitate and support cyber-security improvements, incident response, and forensics.
- Maintain the real-time data network to ensure connectivity to supported systems, such as the Caterpillar Command Autonomous Haulage System.
- Collaborate with the Teck Digital Services team to identify, evaluate and recommend new equipment as required.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2-year Diploma in a related field (Digital Communications, Wireless Technologies, RF Systems) from an accredited institution.
- 2 years relevant experience is preferred
- Familiarity with applicable safety protocols when working around heavy equipment in a mining environment.
- Knowledge of best practices for installation, commissioning and maintenance of in pit and mobile hardware.
- Experience supporting mission critical systems operating in a 24/7 production environment.
- Familiarity with RF propagation and RF coverage prediction tools.
- Knowledge of RF and microwave communications fundamentals.
- Familiarity with introducing new technology products into a production environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with users and vendors to drive improvements to the quality, service, and cost of technology solutions.
- Valid driver’s license and comfortable operating four wheel drive vehicles in remote areas.
- Experience working from heights.
- Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills; a team player.
Hourly Wage: $56.61
Working Conditions:
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
