Role Overview

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Mine Engineering Co-Op

 

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer the Mine Engineering Intern is responsible for mine assignments and projects as assigned by the Principal Mine Engineer(s). The incumbent may be assigned duties and/or projects related to drilling and blasting, short range mine planning and construction projects.

 

Rotation schedule will be 4 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

 

Responsibilities:

•    Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
•    Collaborate with engineering and operations for assistance in the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plans
•    Work on a wide range of mine planning and design tasks including pit and dump design, drill & blast design, traditionally operated fleet management and production scheduling
•    Contribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departments
•    Monitor and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating procedures
•    Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation
•    Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering is preferred. A background in Geotechnical, Geological or Civil Engineering will also be considered.
  • Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
  • Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
  • Experience in an open pit mine (operationally or in an Engineering capacity) would be considered a significant asset. Working exposure to industrial environments would also be an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and Windows environment with advanced abilities in MS Excel
  • Experience with Minesight or another mine planning software suite would be considered an asset
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all level
