Role Overview

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of desktop and field activities in support of the closure project at the Pend Oreille Mine (POM), located in Washington State, USA. This role is critical to ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of project objectives, including health and safety leadership, project planning and cost control, contractor and procurement management, and quality assurance.

 

This position may be based out of Spokane, WA, Trail, BC, Calgary, AB, or Kimberley, BC. However, weekly travel to the Pend Oreille Mine site in Metaline Falls, WA is required to effectively manage on-the-ground activities and maintain strong engagement with the team and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader to ensure that all workers, including contractors, go home safe and healthy every day. Adhere to and sponsor sustainability policies and procedures including coordinating the timely completion of all health & safety preparations, documentation, and training for field activities and supporting on emergency response planning and scenario testing.
  • Drive the development and implementation of project plans, budgets, contracting strategies, and field supervision to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of closure objectives.
  • Lead all aspects of the full contracting lifecycle, from preparation of scopes of work through to recommendation and award, including thorough contractor management to ensure compliance with Teck procedures and safe work plans.
  • Monitor and report on project financial performance, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and looking for opportunities to optimize costs.
  • Collaborate with corporate teams on water treatment and management, environmental stewardship, biodiversity, legal, tailings, and geotechnical management to ensure technical excellence and compliance with all internal as well as government regulatory, reporting and permitting requirements.
  • Identify and document project risks in site risk registers, implement and verify controls, and develop risk treatment plans to reduce exposure and enhance safety and reliability.
  • Foster a culture focused on reducing risk, improving cost efficiency, and optimizing schedule performance through lessons learned and innovative practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of progressive project management experience in mine closure, water management, mining, infrastructure, geotechnical, environmental, or mechanical engineering. Direct site experience acting as the Owner’s Representative is strongly preferred.
  • A post-secondary degree in engineering or sciences is strongly preferred. PMP designation or equivalent project management certification is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and cost control systems.
  • Knowledge of contract law and commercial terms to manage complex agreements effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to manage complexity, prioritize competing demands, and deliver results in multifaceted environments.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, influencing, and written/verbal presentation skills, with the ability to engage team members at all levels.
  • Familiarity with MSHA/OHSA standards and Washington State regulations related to mining and closure activities is considered an asset.
