About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences. 

 

Role Overview

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Mechanical Engineering who have experience with AutoCAD and Solidworks. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to be join our team at one of Canada’s leading mining companies.  

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting mechanical and maintenance projects within a mining environment. Working closely with engineering, operations and skilled trades to help design and coordinate equipment upgrades, maintenance shutdowns and site improvements. You will contribute to innovative solutions that enhance safety, efficiency and the way maintenance and engineering work is designed and delivered.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures 
  • Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day 
  • Collaborate with engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site such as upgrades to mobile mining equipment, processing plant or building facilities  
  • Support operations and work with skilled trades to design/build lifting devices and other aids for maintenance  
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business  

Qualifications

 

  • Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel  
  • Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain  
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously  
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks would be advantageous  
  • Able to work efficiently independently as well as part of the team   
  • Proven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently   
  • Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment   
  • Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand

Pay Range: CAD $4833 - $5592 per month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
