Role Overview
Reporting to the Director, Sustainability Assurance and Management Systems, the Manager, Sustainability Reporting, is responsible for leading Teck’s annual sustainability reporting, ESG engagement with rating and ranking agencies, and conducting the double materiality assessment aligned with Teck’s sustainability strategy.
This role provides leadership and oversight to the sustainability reporting process, to ensure alignment of reporting efforts with Teck’s corporate strategy, enterprise risk, stakeholder expectations and global standards.
The successful candidate will lead the development and execution of processes that enable accurate, timely, and strategic disclosure of Teck’s performance, key issues, and sustainability strategy. This includes maintaining and updating the multi-year sustainability reporting roadmap, ensuring alignment with global reporting standards and stakeholder expectations, monitoring emerging regulations, and leading the double materiality assessment process to inform Teck’s sustainability strategy and enterprise risk management.
The Manager will demonstrate outstanding leadership and critical thinking, robust project management capabilities, deep expertise in sustainability reporting standards, and strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills. Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Lead the Sustainability Reporting team and process to ensure end-to-end production of Teck’s annual Sustainability Report, including planning, stakeholder engagement, training, tracking, and delivery
- Oversee the external report assurance process with the team, including logistics, provider coordination, and internal collaboration
- Provide oversight of website updates related to the Sustainability Reporting Suite content, in collaboration with the team
- Set the vision and roadmap for sustainability disclosure and reporting, ensuring alignment with Teck’s corporate strategy, stakeholder expectations, and quality standards
- Perform double materiality assessments, including planning, consultant and internal engagement, impacts, risks and opportunities (IRO) analysis, and integration with enterprise risk management and corporate strategy
- Lead the evolution of Teck’s sustainability reporting strategy, integrating emerging trends, stakeholder priorities, and external standards
- Develop and oversee the annual Sustainability Reporting and ESG Improvement Plan, aligned with senior leadership expectations and regulatory requirements
- Monitor and respond to evolving sustainability disclosure regulations and standards (e.g., CSDS, ISSB), ensuring Teck remains proactive and compliant
- Lead responses to ESG rating/ranking agencies (e.g., S&P Global, MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS)
- Collaborate with Investor Relations to strengthen Teck’s ESG reputation
- Participate in industry groups (such as ICMM and WEF) to align with industry standards on sustainability reporting
- Lead the sustainability reporting and ESG team and collaborate with cross-functional teams to oversee annual data collection and quality improvement
- Develop and maintain Teck’s Sustainability Reporting standard, procedures, and supporting guidelines to ensure robust and transparent disclosure practices
- Define and handle reporting boundaries and KPIs to support consistent performance tracking and comparability
- Enhance data infrastructure, reporting systems, and tools to support accuracy, efficiency, and adaptability to evolving business and regulatory requirements
- Lead continuous improvement of reporting outputs and internal procedures through structured debriefs, benchmarking, and performance reviews
- Conduct quality reviews to ensure consistency, accuracy, and high standards across all sustainability reporting outputs
- Lead sustainability reporting improvements by closing disclosure gaps in collaboration with SMEs
- Implement proactive risk management practices, identifying potential challenges and developing mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery
- Handle the Sustainability Reporting team’s budget, including tracking, approvals, and vendor payments
- Support other major sustainability-related projects and initiatives at Teck as the need arises
Qualifications
- University degree related to the field of sustainable development or equivalent experience, with 8 to 12 years' of meaningful work experience
- Experience developing programs and strategy, delivering projects and leading resources effectively
- Strong understanding of global sustainability reporting standards and regulatory landscapes
- Exceptional project management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a confirmed ability to prioritize and deliver timely, positive results
- Possesses knowledge of sustainability issues, preferably in the resource development industry
- Analytical skills, with the ability to understand and recognize trends in data in the areas of environment, social and governance
- Results and continuous improvement oriented, with exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Experience in producing Sustainability Reports for large, complex organizations an asset
- Demonstrates Teck's commitment to safety and sustainability
Pay Range: CAD $135,000 - $167,000 per year
