Role Overview

Reporting to the Technical Director, Processing, the Manager, Projects Metallurgy ('Manager') oversees metallurgical and mineral processing aspects primarily for new mine project developments, feasibility studies and opportunity evaluations globally, in both the North American and LATAM regions. They will be expected to collaborate closely with the Manager, Operations Metallurgy, to support expansions or modifications to existing operations, as well as supporting Teck’s operations in addressing short-term-specific issues of a technical nature occasionally.

The Manager leads a team of senior technical staff to support overall project goals with a focus on metallurgical and process engineering objectives consistent with their role and responsibilities. Meaningful experience areas would include mineral processing test work, process flowsheet development and plant design, as well as operations and operations support work. Core unit operation expertise should include crushing, grinding (SAG Ball), flotation, thickening and filtration. Familiarity with concentrator adjacent unit process and infrastructure areas like tailings operation, electrical and water supply, and strategic planning would be considered an asset.

As a key member of the Technical & Planning Function, the Manager is mandated to work closely with other technical teams to deliver the capabilities required to ensure Teck’s Projects are delivering the technical solutions to optimize design and performance. This requires an exceptional ability to collaborate closely with peers across multiple fields, working together in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve common objectives.

      • Evaluate program results to guide flowsheet design, mass/water/energy balances, equipment sizing and design (inclusive of vendor testing), and recovery/concentrate quality/hardness predictive modeling
      • Coordination with geology, geometallurgy and mineralogy, and mining personnel in incorporating key factors and models into geological, geoscience, and block models
    • Work with SMEs with respect to throughput modeling and comminution equipment sizing
    • Lead project design activities related to process plant design within the context of both early stage conceptual studies and part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team for projects at the scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed engineering, and execution phases
      • Act as the owners metallurgical and process representative with projects teams and engineering firms with respect to project design and reviews
      • Conduct equipment sizing
      • Conduct flowsheet, equipment, and technology tradeoff evaluations

  • Lead new and emerging technology assessments related to mineral processing (and to a lesser extent hydrometallurgy)
  • Provide governance and due diligence support focused on process infrastructure, performance, and growth potential for internal and external projects/operations.
  • Advance, modify and develop standards for the practices related to metallurgical and process activities in support project and technology development
