Tailings Short Range Planner

Reporting to the Senior Tailings Engineer, the Engineer or EIT be required to work alongside the Tailings Engineering and Operations teams, in safely achieving production targets and construction milestones in a timely and cost effective manner. The successful candidate will be interacting with personnel from all areas of the mine site.  As such, this position requires an individual with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment, and who is innovative, resourceful, and a strong communicator. The position will require a balance of office and field work, problem solving, and design skills to bring the Long to Mid-Range Plans to an executable level. This position will provide the opportunity to see the construction plan take shape in the field in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.

  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with the Engineer-of-record, Long to Mid-Range Tailings Planner, and Senior Tailings Engineer to develop executable short-range plans, forecasts, and budgets for tailings deposition, dam construction, and supporting projects
  • Communicate effectively with other trades supervisors/planners/schedulers and ensure efficient dam construction
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Tailings &Water, Mill Operations and Maintenance, Dam Contractor Project Manager, and Engineering Consultants to establish priorities, cost forecasts, opportunities for improvement, etc.
  • Prepare customized operational reports and project schedules as required/requested.
  • Investigate and introduce new mining and construction technology applications and innovations.
  • Other tasks supporting the Tailings and Water Management department as required.



  • Exemplary safety leadership.
  • University degree in Mine, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
  • 1-3 years of experience in an operating mine or heavy civil earthwork construction site
  • Experience with Mine planning, construction/project scheduling, or project management would be an asset
  • Registered, or eligible for registration with EGBC (Formerly APEGBC).
  • Strong computer skills with experience in MS Office.
  • Experience in Mine design or construction software (ex. AutoCAD, Vulcan, Geovia GEMS, etc.) would be an asset
  • Exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to multi-task and excel in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong problem-solving capability
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
