Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

The Supervisor Operations Centre (Dispatcher & AHS Controller) is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimizing the movement of equipment and material within the open pit. This role provides real-time oversight of production activities through MineStar and Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), ensuring safe and efficient operation of both autonomous and conventional fleets.

 

Working closely with field supervisors, operators, and technical teams, the Dispatcher & AHS Controller maintains production flow, responds to operational variances, and ensures compliance with mine plans and safety standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining situational awareness and supporting frontline operations.

Key Responsibilities

Safety:

 

  • Monitor field conditions and equipment interactions through digital systems to proactively identify and escalate safety risks.
  • Ensure all dispatching and AHS control activities support safe operating practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Respond to safety-related events in real time, initiating system interventions or communicating with supervisors as required.

 

Real-Time Fleet Management:

 

  • Monitor and control the movement of haul trucks, loading units, auxiliary equipment, and autonomous fleets using MineStar systems.
  • Assign trucks to loaders, dumps, and stockpiles based on production priorities and real-time conditions.
  • Adjust dispatch priorities during operational changes such as equipment downtime, road blockages, or weather impacts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date shift data within fleet management systems.

 

 

Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Control

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of autonomous trucks, including path assignments, work area permissions, and interaction protocols.
  • Monitor AHS alarms, overrides, and system messages; take appropriate action to resolve or escalate issues.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to maintain safe zones, exclusion areas, and optimal traffic flow for autonomous operations.
  • Support troubleshooting of AHS-related operational issues by working with Maintenance and Technical teams.

 

Operational Support:

  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure alignment between dispatching decisions and production plans.
  • Communicate clearly with field crews to support operational continuity and resolve real-time issues.
  • Track production performance throughout the shift and escalate variances impacting targets.
  • Provide shift handover notes and maintain accurate logs of system events, delays, and operational changes.

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and communicate recurring issues related to equipment utilization, delays, system interactions, and traffic flow.
  • Support testing and implementation of new dispatching tools, AHS software updates, or operational procedures.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors and technical teams to improve system performance and production efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of proven experience in leading operational activities in a mining environment
  • Possess a valid Shift Boss Certificate or be eligible for certification
  • Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent
  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency with fleet management systems; experience in MineStar and Autonomous Haulage Systems is an asset

Pay Range: CAD $106,000 - $131,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
