We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Structural Integrity Supervisor to manage the dedicated Infrastructure Crew consisting of welders and apprentices that support the site-critical Structural Integrity Program. Reporting to the General Supervisor, Mill Maintenance, this role provides leadership to the welding crew, ensuring efficient execution in alignment with technical and design requirements, compliance with safety regulations, and alignment with project goals.
The ideal candidate will manage structural repairs, drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and operational excellence. This is a key leadership position responsible for optimizing resources, enhancing safety performance, and delivering high-impact results across all structural areas.
Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Supervise the infrastructure crew consisting of a dedicated team of welders, ensuring they adhere to safety regulations, follow proper welding procedures, and maintain quality standards.
- Administer the collective agreement, safety and mine regulations and environmental regulations in a manner consistent with policies and procedures.
- Coordinate work schedules, manage resources, and resolve any work-related issues within the team.
- Interpret technical requirements of the design documents to provide clear understanding and accurate implementation of requirements.
- Accommodating break-in requests or small engineering support requests to ensure daily operations can sustain.
- Verifying that welding procedures and quality standards are met and addressing any defects or issues. Establish and enforce quality control procedures to ensure that welded products meet specified standards and specifications. Conduct
- inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality requirements.
- Provide effective leadership and guidance within the Mill Maintenance group, working collaboratively with the Asset Integrity team responsible for providing the engineered repair plans.
- Provide input to annual business plans based on short and long-term asset plans, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and targets for operational performance.
- Participate in hazard risk assessments, safety meetings, and positively contribute to the health & safety culture at HVC.
- Coordinate with stakeholders within management and operational teams and ensure that key information is communicated effectively.
Qualifications
- The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Structural or Mechanical Engineering, or similar. Experience in a front-line leadership role with welding or structural repair activities will be considered a strong asset.
- Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in in a leadership or supervisory role.
- A Professional Engineering (P. Eng) designation registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration.
- Experience in planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution of structural integrity programs, including working with external contractors.
- Knowledge of BC Mines Code requirements and possess or eligible for a valid shift boss certificate
- Must Possess a valid driver's license
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite® particularly in Excel, Outlook, and Word.
