Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Reporting to the Senior Dam Safety Engineer, the Dam Safety Supervisor, will be responsible for the oversight and supervision of Mine Technician tasks and surveillance of the many Dam structures on site. The successful candidate is responsible for ensuring safe work practices, while promoting a culture of safety and providing a high level of leadership and motivation to geotechnical Mine Technicians and associated union trade groups.
Success in this role requires a candidate with robust coordination and analytical problem-solving capabilities, ensuring the ability to articulate actionable directives to drilling and construction teams. The candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of supervising internal resources and external contractors to drive the progression of field construction projects. This position demands a proactive individual, capable of managing concurrent priorities and fostering collaboration within a technical, team-oriented environment.
The shift schedule will be a 4-day on, 3-day off rotation (Monday to Thursday) depending on business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures;
- Develop and maintain a safe work environment through compliance with Teck’s Health & Safety Program and the BC Mines Act;
- Lead and hold employees accountable in achieving operational goals and enhance employee work performance and productivity through coaching and feedback;
- Administer the collective agreement, safety and mine regulations and environmental regulations in a manner consistent with policies and procedures;
- Participate in industrial relations and safety investigations;
- Direct the installation/maintenance of dam instrumentation equipment;
- Perform Weekly, monthly/quarterly Dam safety surveillances of all 30 dam structures on site;
- Develop daily, weekly and long term (6 week) schedules for the Mine Technician team, in coordination with other site groups;
- Direct and document preventative maintenance (PM) and compliance activities;
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as PM compliance, schedule compliance and break in work as tools to improve execution.
Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset;
- Preference for candidates to possess a post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or related technical diploma, or greater;
- Minimum five (5) years of mining or construction industry experience;
- Understanding of planning and scheduling principles and procedures;
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Maximo, and AutoCAD;
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Pay Range: CAD $108,000 - $133,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
