Reporting to the General Supervisor, the Senior Supervisor, Mill Operations is responsible for leading 4 shift supervisors with the operation of the Mill. These tasks include the grinding, floatation, leaching, filtering, crushing, conveying, and concentrate handling for the Mill to meet operation targets for safety, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Promote a work environment which supports safe and efficient behaviour on the job and an awareness of and compliance with environmental, safety, engineering, and Mines Act requirements
- Optimize the factors affecting tonnage, recovery, crusher throughput, sand production, and cost to safely produce the targeted pounds of copper and molybdenum as per the production plan.
- Support the planned activities of the Process Plant Operations teams to drive improvement in safety standards, to attain maximum production in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Review results and operating conditions and make changes that would improve plant performance and output.
- Actively support the career development of the Mill Operations team members appropriately.
- Support the cost efficiency of mill operations by actively participating in the selection and allocation of personnel, equipment and consumables, identification and implementation of cost saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure that ore throughput, grades, recoveries and product qualities are managed such that overall site production targets are met
- Develop a high-performance culture within department through strong leadership including appropriate communication, delegation, coaching, and managing performance.
- Administer the collective agreement, safety, and mine and environmental regulations in a manner consistent with policies and procedures
- Perform worksite inspections and safe work observations to identify and correct substandard working conditions and behaviors
Qualifications
- Experience in operating departments of base metal concentrators including working with technical groups
- Minimum 5-7 years’ of outstanding leadership and supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized mining environment
- A degree in Engineering or Metallurgy would be considered an asset
- Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships;
- Demonstrate critical thinking competencies including judgment and analytical thinking;
- Knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and/or Indigenous peoples
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while leading change
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and consultation skills
- Conflict resolution skills.

Pay Range: CAD $119,000 - $148,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
