Senior Supervisor, Regulatory

Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the Senior Supervisor Regulatory is responsible for obtaining regulatory permits, licenses and authorizations as well as coordinating compliance reporting. This requires close cooperation and engagement within the Environment Department and across multiple Highland Valley Copper (HVC) departments.  HVC has Agreements with several Indigenous Governments and organizations who typically provide input to and review regulatory submissions. The Senior Supervisor Regulatory will work closely with the Community Department and engage with Indigenous groups to ensure the development and review of regulatory deliverables meet Agreement requirements.

 

To be successful we are looking for someone with strong experience in regulatory approvals (both federal and provincial).  In addition, we are looking for someone and outstanding leadership, technical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, who can effectively collaborate with both internal groups throughout the operation as well as external groups including Indigenous Governments and Organizations and Regulators. The successful candidate will be someone who is a self-starter, has strong problem-solving skills, and can prioritize competing demands. 

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Be responsible and provide strategic leadership on Highland Valley Copper (HVC) authorizations and approvals
  • Collaborate with site personnel to develop and maintain regulatory schedules
  • Collaborate closely with all departments to implement and refine the regulatory strategy and to secure the required permits and authorizations to enable ongoing operations  
  • Develop and implement programs and tools to communicate regulatory requirements to site personnel
  • Supervise Environment department staff supporting regulatory permitting and compliance
  • Act as the HVC relationship lead and point of contact for regulators on regulatory authorizations and approvals
  • Support engagement with Indigenous groups in cooperation with the Community Department on the regulatory schedules and on specific permitting projects

  • Provide strategic leadership at multi-stakeholder working groups, maintaining positive relationships with key partners in government, local communities, and Indigenous Groups
  • Accountable for developing, implementing, and tracking budgets, and providing input and strategic advice on budget decisions and allocations

Qualifications

  • Engineering or Science degree in mining, natural resources or environmental-related field.
  • Minimum eight years’ experience in mining, resource development, industrial operations, environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and industry practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adjust messaging for a broad range in audiences
  • Strong organizational (including time management), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience leading and/or supervising a team.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and productively as a team member and with external communities of interest including regulatory agencies and Indigenous groups.
  • Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines and strong attention to detail.

Salary Range: $119,000 - $147,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
