About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Integrated Production Superintendent, the Senior Engineer Supervisor is responsible for supervising the engineering team that supports copper production through short-term production planning and data analytics across the value chain. The role works closely with the planning and execution teams to deliver daily plans, report on results and drive continuous improvement.

 

To be successful, we are looking for someone with exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, who can maintain flexibility and creativity in dealing with production planning; someone with strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills, who can prioritize competing demands in a fast paced and dynamic environment.  This role requires a self-directed individual with strong leadership skills, who can work collaboratively with others in a team setting. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to the Integrated Production engineering team
  • Optimize the deployment of the technical workforce to manage daily priorities
  • Develop team members through planning, management by objectives, recognition, and mentorship
  • Oversee the development of safe, optimized, and credible daily production plans that align with our safety culture, sustainability strategy, environmental and production commitments
  • Leverage daily production reporting and analytics to drive operating excellence
  • Support trade-off analyses to optimize daily planning decisions across the value chain and proactively identify plan risks to develop risk management strategies
  • Influence site decision-making through detailed data analysis and understanding of site value drivers
  • Drive continuous improvement of the daily planning and production reporting processes and tools
  • Integrate water quality, biodiversity goals, community values and Indigenous perspective supporting sustainable planning and industry stewardship

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Mining, Chemical or Materials)
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Minimum 8 years of experience, with prior exposure coordinating and supervising an engineering team in a mining or process setting
  • Excellent digital proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Previous work in open pit, truck and shovel operations, concentrators is an asset
  • Proficiency in Maptek and RPM mining software is an asset

Pay Range: CAD $135,000 - $167,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
