About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Senior Engineer Supervisor, Integrated Production, the Senior Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise and strategy to implement and sustain the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle in short- and mid-term production planning, including planning reconciliation, supporting plan development, and optimizing production performance. This role connects operational performance to the throughput/recovery model and establishes a link to geology for block model updates in the short- to mid-term.

 

To be successful, this role will require a candidate with excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, who can build relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.  This role requires a self-motivated individual who is driven to make data-based decisions and can handle contending priorities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide short/mid-term recommendations/updates to the Throughput and Recovery Model, to represent the latest response within the operation.
  • Provide Geometallurgical guidance to implement/update geological models to update the short/mid-term block model.
  • Provide guidance for developing the weekly plan, forecast, annual budget inputs, and daily production plans.
  • Reconciling plan vs. actuals and identifying recovery opportunities.
  • Analyzing mine to mill circuit constraints and maintenance impacts.
  • Review, validate, and manage plan packages and lock-in processes.
  • Reviewing blending strategies and containing metal forecast projections.
  • Engaging with stakeholders across all planning horizons to ensure integrated and executable plans and capturing performance across the value chain.
  • Provide mine to mill strategy to maximize business value.
  • Conducting scenario analysis and providing trade‑off guidance to support operational decisions.
  • Supervise the mill planner and provide support to the Integrated Planning & Production team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Mining, Chemical or Materials)
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Minimum 8 years working in the mining industry with strong knowledge of mill operations, experience in both technical and operations roles is an asset
  • Strong communicator, able to communicate clearly and concisely with key stakeholders 
  • Able to facilitate and develop strong relationships across site 
  • Enthusiastic and driven by interacting with other teams 
  • Able to review and work with data to drive decision making
  • Exhibit courageous safety leadership in providing clear guidance in a variety of situations
  • Efficiently work under high pressure situations and embed effective time management in execution of responsibilities

Pay Range: CAD $119,000 - $147,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
