Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

The Senior Improvement Coordinator is a key member of Highland Valley Copper’s (HVC) Improvement Team, reporting to the Superintendent, Improvement. This small, site-based group partners with departments across the operation to develop, execute, and sustain continuous improvement initiatives that deliver measurable business value.
Experience in this role will set you up for success for future opportunities within the company. Success will require a blend of analytical and interpersonal skills. Your analytical skills will allow you to tackle large and ambiguous business problems through hypothesis-driven approach, while your interpersonal skills will allow you to contribute to cross-functional teams, such as mining engineers, mine operations and continuous improvement specialists, to develop, implement and sustain novel solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Communicate with stakeholders to provide updates, feedback, and scope adjustments for improved efficiency.
- Be the primary source of reliable data and rock-solid analysis, providing the fact base the team uses to make decisions
- Develop implementation plans for portfolio of initiatives that have clear business cases and buy-in from key stakeholders, aligned with HVC’s strategic pipeline
- Track the performance of improvement initiatives via key metrics such as KPI impact, end user adoption, schedule & cost.
- In addition, collaborate with teams to proactively identify risks, issues and/or opportunities to ensure the maximum business value delivered.
- Act as a core resource in ranging exercises, predictive analytics, performance reporting, economic modelling, and value chain mapping to help Teck leaders make data driven decisions.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-7 years of professional in process improvement, cost reduction, mining operations or heavy industry, engineering, and planning.
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong facilitation skills to enable participative discussions and learning among department members
- Enthusiastic and driven by interacting with other teams
- Experience with databases, data analytics, and business intelligence tools (SQL, Power BI, Python)
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field
- Solid understanding of fundamentals of mining industry
Pay Range: CAD $122,000 - $150,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
