Safety Supervisor


Logan Lake, BC, CA

Reporting to the Superintendent, Health and Safety, the Safety Supervisor will assist with the administration of a comprehensive health and safety program.



  • Be a courageous safety leader, help build a positive culture of safety, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Manage and mentor a team of health and safety professionals
  • Influence safe and healthy behaviors to eliminate potential for fatalities, serious incidents, and illnesses by providing the following three main services to the site:
    • Be a service provider of sound systems, processes, support and H&S technical expertise
    • Engage the workforce through listening, training, coaching, and leadership
    • Ensure site compliance with codes, audits, and standards – internal and external
  • Be a critical part of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Work with staff and union from all site disciplines to identify, prioritize, and implement improvement opportunities
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of the HVC health and safety business plan
  • Work toward implementing Teck’s High Potential Risk Control (HPRC) strategy
  • Sustain HVC’s safety programs of Courageous Safety Leadership and Hazard Identification
  • Support the site in all H&S elements of Contractor Management
  • Manage a close working relationship with regulators as well as internal and external auditors
  • Help lead turning H&S data into information to inform management decisions
  • Be able to provide and coach in the following:
    • Risk assessments and critical control effectiveness reviews
    • Incident investigations
    • Internal auditing
    • Actions management
    • Visible Felt Leadership




  • A track record of leading and influencing change at a workplace or organization
  • Self-awareness and the proven ability to engage with a diverse workforce
  • The ability to analyze data and situations and formulate sound business decisions
  • Five years related experience in the management of a safety team, or a front line operations / maintenance team in mining or heavy industry
  • A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Applied Sciences would be an asset.  Equivalent operational experience would also be considered relevant
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office® package: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a complex workload
  • Ability to develop and manage electronic audit and data systems
  • Background in mine rescue or crisis management would be an asset
  • Possess and demonstrate a functional knowledge of applicable codes, regulations and standards
