Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Reporting to the Reliability Lead, the Electrical Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance of electrical and electrically driven mechanical assets across fixed plant and mobile equipment operations. The role applies reliability engineering principles, condition-based maintenance, and failure analysis to reduce unplanned downtime, improve safety, and optimize maintenance strategies.
To be successful in this role, we require someone with excellent problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a strong sense of leadership and team collaboration; someone who has a strong focus on safety and personal responsibility, is self-motivated and able to maintain a positive and adaptable demeanor in fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Develop and implement reliability strategies for fixed plant and mobile equipment assets including motors, VFDs, Switchgears, transformers, electric shovels and drills.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives for electrically driven mechanical systems
- Lead and support condition-based monitoring (CBM) programs; PdMA, Infrared thermography, transformer testing, and telemetry on electric shovels and drills.
- Lead and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5WHYs, FMEA, and defect elimination activities.
- Identify repeat failure modes and develop permanent corrective actions
- Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, engineering, and OEM vendors including participating in cross-site reliability networks
- Develop and optimize PM and PdM strategies in CMMS (SAP, Maximo).
- Develop and monitor reliability KPIs, performance reports, identify bad actor equipment, and develop remedies.
- Provide reliability and maintainability input to electrical and mechanical capital projects.
- Define alarm thresholds and response plans for electrical and mechanical health indicators
- Prepare or provide input to technical documentation, including troubleshooting guides, operating manuals, and maintenance manuals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; P.Eng or EIT designation and technical certifications (CMRP, CRE, CRL etc.) are assets.
- Eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)
- Reliability or electrical maintenance experience in mining, heavy industry, or oil & gas.
- Experience with PLC, ladder logic, telemetry data, data historian/analyzers, and understanding of control systems are assets.
- Proficient in SAP, Maximo are assets

Pay Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
