About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences. 

 

Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Central Asset Management (cAM) team, the MLE Project Controls Analyst is responsible for overseeing cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting for the Mine Life Extension (MLE) Equipment Program at Highland Valley Copper (HVC). The role ensures accurate tracking of project costs, supports month-end financial coordination, and drives accountability through variance analysis and change management. 

 

Working closely with various Project Leads, Finance, Procurement, and other site teams, the analyst provides clear, consolidated reporting to enable effective decision-making and maintain alignment with the approved MLE Equipment budget. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with a strong foundation in project cost management and governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Maintain comprehensive cost reporting for all MLE equipment purchases
  • Prepare and submit monthly consolidated financial reports, including actuals, accruals, and forecasts, to Finance
  • Update monthly and overall project forecasts based on supplier and site inputs
  • Monitor incurred versus committed costs, ensuring accuracy and transparency in financial tracking and reporting
  • Identify and analyze cost variances against the approved MLE Equipment budget
  • Provide clear variance explanations and facilitate corrective action plans for material deviations
  • Support the change management process to ensure all financial impacts are accurately captured, reviewed, and approved in a timely manner
  • Validate work completion status to support accurate accrual submissions
  • Coordinate closely with Finance to ensure alignment on month-end reporting timelines, deliverables, and reconciliations
  • Chair the bi-weekly 2040 MLE Equipment meeting to review cost performance, forecast updates, and budget risks & ensure meeting minutes are documented/distributed and all actions tracked in a log
  • Collaborate with Project Controls, Procurement, Site, and Supplier stakeholders to ensure financial integrity and alignment with project execution strategies

 

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in a related field (Project Management, Business Administration, Engineering, etc.)

  • Minimum four years of experience in cost/budget administration, project controls, project management, or a related field

  • Experience working in a large industrial environment – mining, oil and gas, or manufacturing is an asset

  • Experience with mobile mining equipment is an asset

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy

  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

 

Pay Range: 

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
