About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields with a strong knowledge base in Networking fundamentals. Candidates must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution for the full duration of the co-op term and plan to return to their studies upon completion for at least one academic term. If you are not currently located near the work location, you must be willing to commute or temporarily relocate for the duration of the term. A valid work permit will be required where applicable.
The Mining Systems Co-op will be responsible for learning, deploying, and supporting a wide variety of mining systems across our mine sites. In this role, you will assist in troubleshooting, data analytics, and project work, contributing to the continuous improvement of our operations. You'll also gain hands-on experience through on-site visits, participating in proof of concepts, and developing reports and key performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Support the Autonomous Mining/Drilling Systems (CAT Command for Hauling & Flanders Freedom for Drills) deployment & sustainment
- Support various conventional mining systems such as:
- GNSS Base Station
- ORICA Fragtrack
- MineSense ShovelSense
- HxGN MineProtect Collision Avoidance System (CAS)
- ORICA Groundprobe
- NavStar GeoExplorer
- IDS IBIS
- OT Virtual Machines & Workstations Patching
- Develop and deliver KPI reports for the operational data analysis and data validation.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including but not limited to Visio diagrams for networking systems and ServiceNow workflows.
Qualifications
- Background in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields, with a strong knowledge base in Computer Networking fundamentals
- Senior Student – late 3rd year or 4th year preferred
- Kamloops-based position for HVC Site Experience
- Willing to get hands dirty and work in an industrial environment
- Fundamental knowledge of Computers (Active Directory, Domains), Networks (IP, DHCP, DNS etc.), and Database Systems (SQL etc.)
- Comfortable working in a multifaceted work environment
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the capability to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels
- Able to work efficiently independently as well as part of the team, and take initiative
- Demonstrated ability to quickly, accurately, and efficiently learn and adapt to new technologies and platforms
- Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way that a diverse audience would understand
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op are required
All students will be required to complete a pre-employment drug test prior to commencing work.
