Mechanical Data Specialist

 

Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineering Supervisor, the Mining Data Specialist is responsible for developing new, creative, and efficient ways to display and understand the data that is driving the business solutions in Asset Management across the site. This role requires hands-on analysis working collaboratively with the Reliability team and other departments across the Mine site. 


We are seeking a driven individual with strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, who is a motivated self-starter and collaborates well with a team. Someone who supports a strong safety culture is meticulous in their work and can prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Someone who has excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement demeanor. Most importantly, we are looking for an individual who can effectively communicate and engage maintenance leaders to motivate change.


In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with key partners across multiple functions, departments, and seniority levels. You will play a key role in the delivery of digital tooling products that support core Asset Management functions for both fixed plant and mobile equipment and will inspire change across the organization.


 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide Business Level Ownership of Digital Access Tooling for Teck Asset Management (Maintenance), including prioritization of enhancements based on business value
  • Perform research using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, and workflow analysis
  • Coordinate data analysis, User Acceptance Tests, generate dashboards and reports, monitor critical metrics, and deliver support as required
  • Evaluate and select the best commercial software and technology solutions, primarily in the maintenance and reliability domain
  • Create well-formatted and concise technical and operational performance reporting for Teck Maintenance – Asset Management
  • Evaluate information gathered from various sources, reconcile differences, and translate high-level information
  • Develop business cases and Proof-of-Concept for addressing business improvement initiatives, including the consolidation of reporting activities
  • Develop and communicate meaningful, impactful insights using various data visualization techniques
  • Enhance, improve, and optimize existing Power BI reports and datasets
  • Collect, blend, and transform data using ETL tools, database management system tools, and code development
  • Implement data models and structures for BI and Analytics
  • Interact with other BI teams and be capable of understanding how data needs to be structured for consumption and integration
  • Build informative reports and visualizations to drive business value generation using SSRS, PowerBI, or other BI tools

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, or another related field, or a technical diploma with a combination of relevant experience
  • Three years of demonstrated ability in delivering solutions and relevant business analysis
  • Experience in Mining Operations, Operational Excellence, Business Improvement, or Industrial Maintenance practices preferred
  • Experience with the Software Development Lifecycle in the areas of requirements gathering, prioritization, quality assurance, user training, and task management strategies
  • Experience in SQL, Data modeling, Relational Databases, Big Data, and modern analytical tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, or Power BI
  • Understanding of Cloud platforms, such as Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or Amazon would be considered an asset
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement demeanor
