About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Superintendent, HVC MLE Operational Readiness, the Commissioning Manager, HVC MLE Operational Readiness is responsible for planning and execution of the Commissioning of the MLE Project. Key colleagues will include the Project’s Pre-Operational Testing Manager, the OR Senior Reliability Engineer and the OR Coordinator. 

 

This is a long-term temporary position with an anticipated term of 24 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Project’s Pre-Operational Testing Manager to develop a detailed Commissioning Plan that aligns the Pre-Operational Testing Plan;
    • Develop and refine systemization and tie-in lists
    • Build a commissioning schedule that aligns with construction and pre-ops testing
    • Manage the resolution of punches by category, ensuring that the assets are turned over to HVC with a minimum of remaining work
  • Monitor Construction verification activities and Pre-Operational Testing activities to minimize punches that carry through to Commissioning;
  • Resolve punches that carry through to Commissioning;
  • Work closely with the Project’s Construction team to ensure a construction schedule that minimizes shutdown duration and coordinates construction work with the mill activities;
  • Communicate effectively with the Mill Maintenance, Operations, Planning & Reliability teams during the Commissioning process;
  • Ensuring that turnover packs are complete and information handover is effective;
  • Ensure that baseline condition monitoring is executed correctly;
  • Conduct RCFA’s when required for early failures;
  • Ensure that Commissioning spares are effectively transferred to the warehouse;
  • Other responsibilities as required or as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • University degree in Engineering or Business or a relevant Trade.
  • Minimum 8 – 10 years of dynamically senior level experience preferably in a mining or natural resource environment
  • Recognized leader with strong planning, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness; proven ability to influence.
  • Results oriented and adept at finding effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage and/or work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with the operation of a concentrator and strong technical understanding of mills, feeders, conveyors, pumps and other processing equipment.

Pay Range: CAD $147,000 - $182,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
