Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Education, Human Resources, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field.
For the Learning and Development Co-op, we are seeking students with a passion for workforce development, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement in an industrial environment. The ideal candidate is curious about how effective learning programs contribute to operational safety, productivity, and workforce capability within a mining operation.
Reporting to the L&D Superintendent, this position supports the delivery and enhancement of site-wide training operations. The role focuses on coordinating day-to-day training activities, assisting in the development of learning materials, and tracking compliance to ensure safe and efficient operations.
If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. It is also required to currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (the co-op will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Plan, coordinate, and track training programs across Highland Valley Copper
- Develop and maintain training dashboards and summary reports to track key performance indicators
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of training sessions
- Collaborate with Training Designers and Developers to update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and course materials
- Provide general support to the L&D team, including scheduling, communication, and document management
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline training delivery
Qualifications
- Programs that may lead to success in this role include Human Resources, Education, Business Administration and Data Analytics. Preference will be given to students in their third or fourth year of post-secondary studies, or a graduate program
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and visualize data optimally
- Previous experience with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Learning Management Systems, and/or SharePoint is considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Curiosity about industrial training, safety programs, and workforce capability development
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments while at a mine site
- Motivated self-starter, able to work under minimal direction and be able to coordinate several tasks and/or projects simultaneously
- Adaptable and flexible, as well as open to learning and trying new things
- Able to maintain confidentiality and a high level of integrity
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required
All students will be required to complete a pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
Pay Range: CAD $4,000 - $5,100 per month
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
