Leader, Economic Development

Reporting to Superintendent of Environment and Community, the Leader Economic Development is responsible for collaborating with internal Teck Highland Valley Copper Partnership (THVCP) departments and managing the identification, implementation and monitoring of opportunities related to business and contracting for local communities and First Nations.  Additionally, this role will assist local communities and First Nations with establishing economic development plans, businesses, and projects primarily for the benefit of the participating businesses and communities. The Leader Economic Development will assist with the successful development of business, marketing, and financial plans. The successful applicant will work with private industry and government agencies to better understand eligibility for funding opportunities and assist clients to prepare proposals and access funding. Additionally, the Leader Economic Development will work closely with the Materials Management department to understand THVCP’s supply chain process and look for opportunities to bring this in alignment with the contracting provisions of THVCP’s impact benefit agreements with local First Nations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and regulations
  • Primary contact for coordination of local and First Nation business and contracting
  • Support execution of the Annual Procurement Plan
  • Design and implementation of contractor monitoring and sub-contracting processes
  • Support First Nation and local community economic development
  • Anticipate, identify and resolve problems related to contracting with local communities and First Nations
  • Identify, lead and actively participate in business improvement initiatives to support the long term IBA contracting and procurement implementation requirements
  • Knowledge sharing through training and mentorship to THVCP employees
  • Other responsibilities as required or assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting, Business, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or Marketing
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working with local communities, with an emphasis on First Nations business development or supply chain management
  • Experience in the Supply Chain Management field with a good understanding of contract structures, terms and conditions
  • Strong personal computer and business solutions software skills, previous use of operating software such as JD Edwards will be an asset
  • Strong communication and dialogue skills for communicating with technical personnel, management and community members
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good presentation skills for educating a variety of internal and external stakeholders about business processes and strategies
  • Ability to handle large volume of work and multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Self-motivated and capable of working under minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license (minimum BC Class 7N or equivalent)
