Hydrogeologist

Logan Lake, British Columbia, CA

Reporting to the Senior Water Resource Lead, the Hydrogeologist is responsible for groundwater monitoring programs and modelling studies to support operations, permitting, compliance, and management of the site’s groundwater resources. The successful candidate will work as part of a cross-departmental team to implement the Water Management and Environmental Management Systems. The position requires collaboration with a variety of people from across the site and with external consultants and contractors. 

 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal, and communication skills; a motivated self-starter with strong organization, analytical, problem-solving, and decision making abilities who can prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced team environment. Lastly, this role requires the ability to effectively work as part of a team in a multifaceted environment.

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures 
  • Provide technical oversight of groundwater monitoring and management programs, and modelling studies 
  • Support design, implementation, and operation of groundwater interception systems 
  • Develop project scope, plans, and request for proposals 
  • Prepare schedules and cost estimates, track costs, and prepare forecasts for projects 
  • Conduct health and safety risk assessments, implement controls to mitigate hazards, conduct inspections, report incidents and participate in audits and investigations 
  • Manage contractors and consultants to ensure work is conducted safely and in accordance with Environmental Protection work plans 
  • Train junior employees, co-op students, and contractors 
  • Remain available for periodic after-hours response to environmental incidents as required  

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Earth or Environmental Sciences, or Engineering with a specialization in hydrogeology and eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia  
  • Minimum five years of technical experience in the field of hydrogeology and project management; experience with groundwater monitoring and proficient in data management  
  • Technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices 
  • Eligible to work in Canada  
  • This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet, or icy ground
